St. Mark’s Christian Education Committee

Christian Education has six members, all currently sharing the role of co-chair. Elaine Noseworthy has retired from our committee and we’d like at this time to thank her again for her four years of service and support.

The evening Youth service of December 3rd called “The Hanging of the Greens” was not a traditional service. Al and the choir participated, with the Youth welcoming the children to bring their handmade decorated ornaments up to hang on the tree, and any member of the congregation was welcome to do so as well. The collection from this well attended event and a donation from Christian Education’s Special Services fund was donated to our refugee family, the Kalleys. On December 10th the children paraded in to the church during the White Gift service with donations for the Food Bank wrapped in white. No pageant was held this year due to the low number of students. The Cosmic Walk on March 25th was a great success. The Lenten readings by the teachers and the candle extinctions by the children were very well done. The Sunday School closing service will be May 27th. Along with the certificates being passed out, two grade 2 students were presented with Bibles and two senior students were confirmed. A pool party was held that afternoon.

Emma Barrs attended Youth Conference from St. Mark’s congregation. I’m sure she will have enjoyed her time and had a memorable experience.

In January Brenda MacEachern informed Christian Education committee that a “Relay for Life” in support of the Canadian Cancer Society will be held June 1st and 2nd in Port Hawkesbury. She thought it might be a good idea to put a team in for the Sunday school and youth group. We formed a 15 member team called the St. Mark’s Striders.

Heather Roussy retired as Sunday school superintendent when Sunday School closed on May 27th and with the move of the Rose family west to Fort MacMurry, Sunday school is now one teacher and four students less. Therefore, Sunday school is now looking for a superintendent/superintendents and teachers. Please think about it, helping with the spiritual growth of our children and future leaders of our church.

This position is not just for women. Men can be great superintendents and teachers too!!

Thank you, to Heather Roussy and all Sunday school teachers and helpers for all the time they have given to the children each Sunday.
Have safe and sunny summer!!
