One: The peace of Christ be with you. All: And with your spirit.

Call to Worship Based on Isaiah 43:16–21 and Psalm 126

One: God, in the middle of our busy lives, you call us to worship. Our journeys bring us back to your loving ways.
All: God has done great things for us!
One: God, you made a way in the sea and brought your people through the mighty waters and away from captivity in Egypt.
All: God has done great things for us!
One: God is doing a new thing – making a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
All: God has done great things for us!
One: All the wild animals praise God, who provides water in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
All: God gives us nourishment for our journey. God has done great things for us!
One: Come, let us worship God.

Opening PrayerGod, we are grateful for your presence with us during this Season of Lent. May our hearts and minds be open to the new thing that you are doing in and through each one of us, and in and through this gathered community. May we see with fresh eyes, breathe in the new smells, hear your call, and experience the fresh ways you are inviting us to be in ministry with you. Amen.

*Hymn               We Are Pilgrims               VU 595

Lenten Triad Candle Extinguishing (Tenebrae)

(Two candles of triad plus Christ candle are lit before the service)
One: Today is the fifth Sunday of Lent. Lent is a time to think about the things that block us from following God's way of loving and caring for this world and one another.
Two: Today we will put out our fifth Lenten candle. This candle represents envy.
One: As the candle is put out, let us pray in silence for God to remove envy within us and in our world that stops us from appreciating the things that we have by wishing we had more.
(Snuff out fifth Lenten candle and then pause with head bowed for silence.)
Knowing that God accepts us for who we are, but loves us into who we can be, let us join together in this song,
