A thought around which to gather as we worship--Gospel signs intend to reveal something of Jesus, even as Jesus is the sign of God among us. In the face of scarcity, an extravagant sign of transformation reveals God’s abundance. Faith trusts the possibility that God can and will provide for the good of all. What Mary knew and trusted invites our own knowing and trusting: God’s love never runs dry.

WE GATHER TO WORSHIP GOD

Greeting
One: The peace of Christ be with you. All: And with your spirit.

*Introit           Arise, Your Light Is Come, v.1        VU 79
Arise, your light is come!
The Spirit's call obey;
show forth the glory of your God,
which shines on you today.

*Call to Worship Taken from 1 Corinthians 12:1–11
One: There are a variety of gifts, but the same Spirit.
All: God’s gifts overflow in us.
One: There are varieties of services, but the same Lord.
All: God’s gifts overflow in us.
One: There are a variety of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone.
All: Let us worship the God from whom we have received overflowing gifts!

*Opening Prayer
Gracious God, you have given each one of us special gifts – gifts from your Spirit. We praise you, God, for the gifts that overflow in us. Help us to know how you want us to use our gifts, individually and within our community, to heal the hurt and brokenness in our world. Be with us this day as we sing praises, hear your word, and open our hearts to the ways that you are speaking to us and through us. Amen.

*Hymn             Joyful, Joyful, We Adore You     VU 232

Prayer for Wholeness
Right: Forgive us when we fail to recognize the gifts you have given,
Left: when we look to the gifts of others and wish they were our own,
Right: when we think our gifts are not good enough,
Left: when we see the needs around us but don’t believe there is anything we can do,
Right: when our own fear keeps us from helping others.
All: Forgive us, O Holy One, when we fail to fully receive the overflowing gifts that come from you. Amen.

Words of Affirmation
One: …We are not alone. God’s spirit will guide us even when we lose our way.
All: Thanks be to God!

WE LISTEN FOR GOD’S WORD

Isaiah 62:1–5 No longer called “Desolate,” but “Delight.”

Minute for Mission & Offering Our Gifts to God

* Offering Prayer
God of abundance and overflowing love, we offer these gifts, both monetary gifts and the gifts of our very selves, to you. Use them and us to allow others to feel and see and experience the amazing fullness of your love for us. Like wine that overflows from jars, may these gifts reach places far and wide, bringing your grace and love to people who need it the most. Amen.

Prayers of Thanksgiving and Intercession
One: When Jesus turned water into wine, he was welcoming the arrival of your new age, O God.
All: May your gifts overflow in us.
One: The jars of water that became wine are symbols of the power of your love, O Holy One.
All: May your love overflow in us.
One: We thank you, God, for the gifts in people like Mary who saw in Jesus that it was his time. And we thank you for people in our own lives who see in us the gifts we do not always see in ourselves.
All: May your presence overflow in us.
One: Show us how to use the gifts overflowing in us in such a way that all whom we meet may see and feel your love as it shines through us.
All: May your spirit overflow in us. Amen.

WE GO TO SERVE GOD

* Hymn              Go Now in Peace       Printed

*Commissioning and Benediction
One: God’s love is overflowing.
All: God’s gifts are abundant.
One: Go out into the world, overflowing with God’s love and abundance,
All: so that everyone we meet can experience God’s overflowing love for themselves.

*Choral Amen
