On Friday, April 25th at 7:30 pm, a presentation by Nova Scotia quilter Valerie Hearder, at Greenwood United Church, Baddeck. Valerie is internationally known, not only for her own creations but also for her organization “African Threads”. It is a non-profit organization, affiliated with the Stephen Lewis Foundation, which helps grandmothers in Africa who care for millions of their grandchildren orphaned by the death of their parents due to AIDS. A monetary donation and/or donation of embroidery floss or non-prescription reading glasses gratefully accepted. For more information go to www.africanthreads Following Valerie’s presentation, there will be refreshments and an opportunity to buy the beaded and embroidered pieces.


Jordan Delaney is a grade 11 student at SAERC and lives in Port Hawkesbury. She has been selected to join a group of 16 Girl Guides from across Canada to take part in an International Community Service Project in Peru. The local Girl Guides will be hosting a cold plate dinner on Friday, April 11 from 11:30-1:00 at St Marks Church Hall to support Jordan and her work in Peru.
