ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 20TH

REIGN OF CHRIST/CHILDREN'S SUNDAY

Nan is leading a four session study on "Our Words of Faith: Cherished, Honoured and Living" on Thursday evenings at St. Mark's at 7:00 p.m. Between January and May 2012, each pastoral charge and presbytery is being asked in a remit whether to include each of three statements in the Doctrine section of the Basis of Union of the United Church of Canada. This study will begin to prepare us for this remit as we study the Statement of Faith (1940), A New Creed (1968; rev. 1980, 1994) and A Song of Faith (2006).

General Council Youth Forum Home Group Leaders and Chaplains Needed
Inverness-Guysborough Presbytery Christian Life and Growth Committee are searching for leaders from our presbytery to attend the 41st General Council Youth Forum as Home Group Leaders and Chaplains. General Council 2012 Youth Forum will be held in Ottawa, ON August 11-18, 2012, with the theme Seeking Justice, Loving Kindness, and Walking Humbly. Home Group Leader and Chaplain expenses will be covered by the Youth Forum budget, with the exception of expenses in acquiring a Police Record Check. Application forms are available in the church office. Speak to Nan if interested.



ST. MARK’S SUNDAY SCHOOL

ST. MARK’S ANNOUNCEMENTS

"The Ways & Means Committee of St. Mark's are presenting a Memorial Hymn Sing, under the direction of Al Fougere, TODAY Sunday, November 20, 2011, at 2:30 p.m
“Hanging of the Greens” Service at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 27th at St. Mark’s Church. Youth led worship. Decoration of the Church for Advent and Christmas.

Anyone interested in donating a poinsettia for the Hanging of the Greens service is asked to leave it in the hall by the morning of Nov.27th. If it is in honour or memory of someone please contact Jane or leave a note on the collection plate with the necessary information.

Members of St. Mark’s Congregation have formed a committee to compile a cookbook and we want your “tried and true” favorite recipes. If you want to share your recipes, please type them up and forward to Ruth MacRae at angus.macrae@sympatico.ca or write them up and put on the collection plate and I will type them up. We’re looking for recipes in all categories. This cookbook will be an excellent fundraiser for our church, so pass on your recipes. Any anecdotes re the origin of your recipe(s) or any other comments are most welcome.”

St. Mark's Worship and Pastoral Care Committee is establishing a Pastoral Care Visitation Team, an informal group of laypeople who will extend pastoral care and a compassionate presence to members of our congregation. Interested in helping us provide this ministry, supported by our minister, Nan? Please call the Church Office or speak to any member of the Worship and Pastoral Care Committee.

On November 25th the Special Events Group will be holding their annual Christmas Bazaar from 7 to 9. Donations to the Craft, Knitting, Sewing, New to You or Bake Table may be taken to the Church on Thursday evening between 6pm-8pm or anytime after 1pm on Friday, November 25th. A door prize will be drawn for and admission is $2.00. We look forward to your support once again.

The UC Observer reports on national and international issues of faith, justice, ethics, daily living and popular culture. Cost is $20/yr. Please use one of the envelopes in the narthex to subscribe or renew and place on the collection plate by Dec. 11. For more info contact Lorna Harvey.


ST. DAVID’S ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Session will meet following Church TODAY. Short Meeting.

Nov. 27th – First Sunday in Advent. Communion. Poinsettia are received “In Loving Memory of”, “In Honour of” or “as a gift”.
Anyone who would require envelopes for the 2012 year please advise us as they will be distributed in early December.

Decorating the Church


On Saturday, November 26th, 2011 beginning at 9 AM


This much anticipated event includes make a craft with the children;


setting up our beautiful Nativity Scene;


decorating and putting up outdoor lights;


decorating two trees;


embellishing and hanging evergreen wreaths… etc.


At noon we pause to share a meal (which is provided) and to enjoy a time of fellowship.


Please plan to attend.

U.C.W – Our group will once again initiate the Christmas Dinner Boxes project. We plan to fill boxes with dinner ingredients for 13 families, plus gifts for the children. The boxes will be delivered to needy families in our area.

Next Sunday, Nov. 27th, we will have an Angel Tree set up in the church entry. The tree will hold paper angels listing grocery items or gifts for children, needed to fill the Christmas Dinner Boxes. You are invited to choose an angel(s) and on Dec. 11th – White Gift Sunday, you are asked to bring your grocery items (or children’s gift) to church. Please wrap the items in white paper, if possible – they will be brought forward during the White Gift Service. Also please attach your angel(s) to the gift(s).
