St. Mark’s Trustees and Finance Committee

It was noted that the balusters on the stairways and landings were spaced on eigh-inch centers (more or less), which could be dangerous and may not conform to more recent codes. After some enquiries, a source of material was located and intermediate balusters were installed by volunteers at minimal cost. Thanks to those who did this for us.

We have received almost $4000.00 from three insurance policies donated by Danford Smith several years ago. This was topped up to $4000 and used to pay down the mortgage by this amount. As of December 31, the balance owing on the manse mortgage is $63,376.48.
High-speed internet has been installed in the Church office, and the e-mail address has changed accordingly.

At the end of April, the general fund was in the red by $1271.61. The Buffet Dinner organized by the Ways and Means committee, was a resounding success again this year, and these proceeds should get us out of the red by the end of May.

There are loop transmitters for the sound system which broadcast a radio frequency signal that can be picked up by telecoils in most modern hearing aids. This would make it possible for people with hearing aids to hear the sound system directly without background noise. Terry found out that group of retired telephone employees are installing loop transmitters for the audio in public buildings on a volunteer basis. It would cost about $300 - $500. Terry has contacted them to install one in St. Mark’s as soon as they can, probably September.

Summer maintenance work for this year will be discussed at the June meeting.
