Nan Corrigan, Diaconal Minister, will be on vacation from November 7th to 13th and from November 24th to December 2nd. Rev. Heather Manuel, Guysborough, will be covering pastoral care and Sue Betuik will be worship leader during those times.

Copies of the “UPPER ROOM” for Nov.-Dec. are available.

Deadline for information for the bulletin is Thursday at noon.

Food Bank donations are received on the last Sunday of the month.
Food donations are being received today. 

Prayer Shawl Knitting Circle: Knitters and crocheters gather in the parlour of St. Mark’s on the 3rd Monday of each month. The next time of gathering is Monday, November 20th  at 1:00 p.m.

The Food Bank is in need of plastic grocery bags and egg cartons.

Study for Remit 6: Study sessions for Remit 6: Study 1 will be held on Monday, October 30th at St. Mark’s at 7:00 p.m. and at St. David’s on Wednesday, November 1st at 10:00 a.m. (Remit Background & Education);  2nd Study Session on Wednesday, November 15th at St. David's at 10:00 a.m. and Thursday, November 16th at St. Mark's at 7:00 p.m. (Identity and Equity). Note that there are 2 different studies, each offered twice. You choose which location and time works for you. Board members and interested individuals from the congregations are encouraged to attend whichever of these 2 sessions is most convenient. 

We have been asked by the Port of Welcome Settlement Association if we would help to furnish the kitchen and bathroom for the Syrian refugee family being sponsored by this community. There is a signup sheet in the church entry. St. David's folks are asked for Kitchen items and St. Mark's for Bathroom items. Items to be collected by Monday November 13th.

St. David's Pastoral Care and Oversight Visit  November 22nd at 8:00 p.m.

Presbytery Triennial Visit to St. David's

Oversight visits are part of the Presbytery's ministry to the Pastoral Charges within its bounds. It is the Presbytery's responsibility to keep in touch with Pastoral Charges, supporting in times of struggle and celebrating and encouraging achievements. The United Church of Canada is set up so that there is support and encouragement for all Pastoral Charges and all ministry personnel in its care. One way this is done is through regular Presbytery Pastoral Care and Oversight Visits​. In this presbytery, these visits are intended to happen every 3 years (triennial). Everyone welcome to attend this meeting.

HURRICANE RELIEF     As a result of the devastation, from a series of hurricanes that ravaged the Caribbean, there is much hunger, thirst, poverty and great personal loss. We are called to be the Church, to offer assistance to these communities. Please give generously, up to and including Sunday, October 29th, by way of a 'special offering'.

Anyone wishing a drive to New Glasgow or Truro,  please contact Margie Mac Intyre at 902-625-1361 for dates and times.

Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo 2018.... Planning another bus trip to Halifax, Saturday, June 30th, 2018 for the matinee, returning in the evening. More information will be available early November and I will be taking bookings mid November, as it will be necessary to determine numbers to obtain a group rate, get tickets and to confirm a bus. This is a great package at a very reasonable price. An invitation will be extended throughout our church community. Call Margie at 902.625.1361, if you are interested. 

Donate your gently used clothing to Port of Welcome Settlement Association. Drop off clothing at Cathy's Consignment shop and ask that proceeds of sales go to the POWSA account (act#4488). Once our family arrives they will be able to use the credit in that account.

Pastoral Airs Concert, will be held at St. David's United Church, Port Hastings, Sunday, December 3rd, 7 p.m. Local Talent. This is the first Sunday in Advent. Free Will Offering in support of the Strait Area Food Bank.

Floor Curling starting November 15th from 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. at St. Mark’s Church Hall. Open to all ages. No fee. Contact Margie Mac Intyre, Coordinator at 902-625-1361. 

Gospel Concert will be held at Trinity United Church, Mulgrave, Sunday, November 5th at 2:30.  Free-will offering to be collected.  Local performers.  All welcome.  If you wish to perform, please call Chris Cook at 902-631-2858. 

The regular monthly meeting of the Port Hastings Historical Society will be held on Wednesday, November 1st at 7 pm. at St. David’s Hall in Port Hastings. People interested in preserving and working on new ways to depict the history of the Strait area communities are encouraged to attend.

The social evening at the Evergreen Club on Nov 11 is cancelled due to Remembrance Day. 

Port Hastings Fire Department Breakfast on Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 8 a.m. - 11 a.m.. Adults $8.00/Children $5.00. Hosted by Port Hastings Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary. 

Inverness County Cares will host a Thai Dinner at the Judique fire hall on November 18th. Dinner begins at 6:30. Proceeds will be used to support our school in Kenya-Saint Charles Lwanga School. 
Guest speakers will be Betty Jane Cameron and Fr Duncan MacIsaac. admission is by donation. Places must be pre-booked and can be done by contacting Flo Campbell for reservations-please call 902-787-2092 before Nov. 15th.
