Announcements The Work of Church and Community

We Gather to Worship God
Greeting
One: The peace of Christ be with you.  All: And with your spirit.

*Call to Worship
Look, Lord, on an empty vessel that needs to be filled.
In faith I am weak-strengthen me.
In love I am cold-warm me and make me fervent
so that my love may go out to my neighbour.
I doubt and am unable to trust you completely.
Lord, strengthen my faith and trust in you.
You are all the treasure I possess.
I am poor, you are rich,
and you came to have mercy on the poor.
I am a sinner, you are goodness,
From you I can receive goodness,
but I can give you nothing.
Therefore I shall stay with you.
(Martin Luther)
VU 400 Lord Listen to Your Children Praying  (seated)
Opening Prayer
Think about picking up a lump of clay and molding it in your hands
Think about the creation of the world-
the touch of God’s hands on the very substance of the universe
As you change the appearance of the clay with the touch of you hands,
think how the world you live in has touched and changed you…
Think of how your hands have touched other people –
in love, in anger, in sorrow and in joy…

Think of the things and people who have touched your life
and molded you into the person you are today…

“Yet, O LORD, you are our Father.
We are the clay, you are the potter;
we are all the work of your hand.” (Isaiah 64:8)

* Hymn VU 296 This is God’s Wondrous World
Prayer of Confession
With this confession, we remember
You are the Potter, we are the clay.

WE LISTEN FOR GOD’S WORD
Jeremiah 18:1-11
One: Herein is Wisdom All: Thanks be to God
Psalm 139 VU 861
Philemon 1-21
Luke 14:25-33
One: Herein is Good News. All: Praise be to God.

Help Shape the Future of the United Church
Learn about and then voice your opinion on the remits that are now before the church. It is vitally important that the governing body of every pastoral charge and presbytery cast a vote on all applicable remits. An absolute majority is needed for the remits to pass, not just a majority of those that vote. If passed by an absolute majority, each remit will go to the 43rd General Council 2018 for approval. If a governing body of a pastoral charge or presbytery does not vote, that is considered a vote AGAINST the remit question.
Study documents for Remit 1: Three Council Model will be circulated in September with viewing of the United Church webinar at St. Mark’s on October 4th at 7:00 p.m. Remit 1 will be voted on by your church board at their October meeting.

Inverness-/Guysborough Presbytery Annual Choir event on Saturday, September 24 at  3:00 pm. in Guysborough.
