Thoughts around which to gather as we worship:
Bartimaeus throws off his beggar’s cloak and immediately follows Jesus “on the way.”
What do you need to throw aside in order to follow with eyes of faith wide open?

WE GATHER TO WORSHIP GOD

Greeting
One: The peace of Christ be with you. All: And with your spirit.
*Introit Come Build a Church
Come build a church with soul and spirit,
come build a church of flesh and bone.
We need no tower rising skyward;
no house of wood or glass or stone.
Come build a church with human frailty,
come build a church of flesh and blood.
Jesus shall be its sure foundation.
It shall be built by the hand of God.

Call to Worship
One: Blind Bartimaeus sat by the roadside and cried out:
All: Jesus, oh Jesus, have mercy on me.
One: Others sit by life’s roadsides today, crying out:
All: Jesus, oh Jesus, have mercy on me.
One: Even though voices try to silence them, still they cry:
All: Jesus, oh Jesus, have mercy on me.
One: When other voices put us down, still we will cry:
All: Jesus, oh Jesus, have mercy on me.
One: Come, let us worship God!

Opening Prayer     Blind Bart’s Leap
Open our eyes, O Holy Wisdom,
to what we cannot see,
despite our looking.
Open our eyes, Source of All Truth,
to what we refuse to see,
despite our need.
Open our eyes, Sacred Coincidence,
to the opportunities that pass right before us,
despite our protests of bad luck.
Open our eyes, Alluring Love,
to the future you call us to create,
despite our disbelief.
Show us the way,
that we might shed our sightless selves
like an old cloak
and leap, with blind Bartimaeus,
at the Christ’s invitation
to restore our vision. Amen.
