Thoughts around which to gather as we worship: “Africans have this thing called UBUNTU. It is about the essence of being human, it is part of the gift that Africa will give the world. It embraces hospitality, caring about others, being able to go the extra mile for the sake of others. We believe that a person is a person through another person, that my humanity is caught up, bound up, inextricably, with yours. When I dehumanise you, I inexorably dehumanise myself. The solitary human being is a contradiction in terms and therefore you seek to work for the common good because your humanity comes into its own in belonging.”
(Desmond Tutu, Archbishop Emeritus of Cape Town)

WE GATHER TO WORSHIP GOD

Greeting

One: The peace of Christ be with you. All: And with your spirit.

*Introit       O Great Earth
O Great Earth so green and so blue, this is the promise that I’ll make to you: To care for your people, for people can hear the rhythm of your heartbeat. Words unknown, tune Linnea Good.

Call to Worship

Come, friends, from every corner of the earth.

We come to worship the one who created us and all living

things.

Imagine. We bear the face of God to all living parts of creation.

We come to celebrate our place in the vast scheme of creation.

Our God, Maker of the universe, cares about each and every

one of us. We bring our hearts and voices to sing praise to God.

Come, let us worship God.

Opening Prayer

We gather here this morning in the presence of our Creator

and one another, to pause from our day to day living. We come

to take some time in our busy lives to renew our faith, to

reconnect with God, and to know ourselves loved

unconditionally. As this message is reaffirmed in our hearts

take us from this place to proclaim that message to all we meet.

In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.

* Hymn              All Things Bright and Beautiful     VU 291

Prayer for Wholeness

Assurance of Love

One: …So be assured that, as you seek to realign your hearts with

God’s, you are forgiven, and loved unconditionally.

All: Thanks be to God. Amen.

WE LISTEN FOR GOD’S WORD

Genesis 1:26-28 Let us make human beings in our image.

One: What are human beings that you think about them?

All: What are human beings that you pay attention to them?

God spoke: “Let us make human beings in our image,

make them reflecting our nature

So they can be responsible for the fish in the sea, the birds

in the air, the cattle,

And yes, Earth itself, and every animal that moves

on the face of Earth.”

God created human beings; he created them godlike

Reflecting God’s nature.

He created them male and female.

God blessed them:

Prosper! Reproduce! Fill Earth! Take charge!

Be responsible for fish in the sea and birds in the air,

for every living thing that moves on the face of Earth.”

One: “if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you,

All: “if you have a heart, One: “if you care –”

All: then let us follow this advice from St. Paul:

One: “Agree with each other, love each other,

and be deep-spirited friends.

All: “Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your

way to the top.

One: “Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead.

All: “Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage.

One: “Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.”

All: And know that God will be with you. Always.
