WEEKLY LENTEN REFLECTION

March 3

Psalm 63:1–8

“O God…I seek you, my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” (Psalm 63:1)

A student once defined “yearning” as meaning “wanting
something so badly it hurts.” The teacher affirmed the
student, “that’s right – it has to hurt.” We may not actually
be in pain and suffering when we long for God, but the
yearning is real. Perhaps we are in need, and so we long
for God’s presence. Perhaps we do not know which way
to turn, and we desperately seek God’s direction. Perhaps
we simply recognize that without God’s guidance we have
little chance of ending up in a good place. Say a prayer,
asking for the wondrous refreshment of God’s Spirit.
