WE GATHER TO WORSHIP GOD

Greeting
One: The peace of Christ be with you. All: And with your spirit.
Introit            Come, Let Us Sing, verse 1               VU 222
Call to Worship
We gather in the Spirit of God,
many people with a common purpose:
to live the way of God in our lives and world.
The Spirit of Wisdom surrounds us
filling us with knowledge of God’s will
and shaping our hearts into the very heart of God.
Come, and practice wisdom ways
in this sacred community
that knows and wills the righteousness of God.
Let us worship God.

Opening Prayer
O God, your ways may be greater than our ways,
but your desire for justice and right-ness
is no secret to those who love you.
May your spirit of wisdom grow within us this day,
so we will know your ways more completely
and have the will to follow more faithfully. Amen.

* Hymn              O Worship the King                 VU 235

Prayer for Wholeness                (based on Psalm 111)
The bright blue planet
spins in the vast darkness of space;
let all who live on the earth rejoice.
Only on this one small ball do we know life exists;
let all who live on the earth give thanks.
The vision takes our breath away;
let all who live on the earth open their eyes (pause).
This fragile ball bursting with life is a work of art;
let all who live on earth recognize God’s goodness.
Foxes and field mice, humans and whales, eagles and ants –
all are woven together in a tapestry of relationships;
let all who live on the earth recognize this reality.
And God has delegated responsibility to us;
let all who live on the earth be mindful (pause).
All life is balanced in a delicate equilibrium;
let all who live on the earth understand their responsibility.
A tapestry cannot be reduced to a single thread;
let all who live on the earth accept their responsibility.
This egg floating in the dark womb of the universe
is like God’s own embryo;
let all who live on the earth treat it as holy.
We share an awesome and terrible responsibility;
may God live forever (pause).

Assurance of Love
When Solomon became king of Israel,
he asked God to gift him with wisdom –
the ability to know and the will to do God’s justice.
Like Solomon, we are called
to care for our homeland: the earth.
We are not afraid of this awesome responsibility
for God gifts us with wisdom to know and do what is right and just.
Let us live in the wisdom of God
and be faithful in all that is entrusted to us. Let it be so.
