Luke 24:13–35 The disciples who meet Jesus along the road to Emmaus are at a sad point in their spiritual journeys. The man they had hoped and even dared to believe was the Messiah is dead and missing from his tomb. Their own grief and sadness blind them to the presence of the risen Christ among them. How often do we miss out on Christ’s presence in our midst? How often are we too preoccupied to see the moments of resurrection and new life around us?
This week – invite someone you’d like to get to know better to dinner (or cook her or him dinner) and be mindful of how important sharing meals can be in forming and building relationships.

Prayer for Wholeness
Forgive us for the times we have imposed burdens of guilt or shame on others,
instead of proclaiming the freedom that you offer each of us.
Forgive us for the times we have not offered hospitality to others,
and for the times we have missed opportunities to meet you in one another.
Forgive us for the times we as a community of faith have turned people away from God
by our misinterpretation or misuse of scripture or by
failing to live in the way and love of Jesus.
Forgive us when we exclude others;
remind us that your promise is for all. Amen.
Words of Affirmation
One: Our gracious God extends forgiveness to each of us.
When we turn toward God, God frees us from the heaviness of guilt
and grants us open and forgiving hearts to trust in God’s grace
and justice. Our eyes are opened to recognize the presence of the
risen Christ in each other.
All: Thanks be to God! Amen.
