May
11th, 2014—4th Sunday of Easter
Acts
2:42–47
The
early church sought ways to daily live and remember the power of
Jesus’ ministry and his resurrection. In this week’s focus
scripture, we read of how the church inspired devotion to prayer,
fellowship, breaking bread, sharing with one another, and learning
more about “The Way.” Their practices have become ours as the
church of today. Our communities of faith are connected.
This
week – share by giving away clothing you don’t need in your
wardrobe this season, volunteering your time and gifts to your parish
or another community ministry with the poor, or making a
donation (or extra gift) to your parish or organization that is
helping people in need.

Call to Worship
Come
into this gathering as you are:
come
as friend or stranger; come as seeker or teacher;
come
as old or young; come as lost or found; come as you are.
You
are the person God loves, and gives life as the Good Shepherd does:
healing, holding, loving, feeding, tending, nurturing God.
Come as you are to
worship, journey with us
and be welcomed into
God’s green pastures.

Prayer
for Wholeness
One:
Loving God, thank you
for community:
for
those who meet here each week
and
for the wider community,
for
all those who care for others and share generously.
We
hear of the costly commitment of the early church and are aware of
our shortcomings:
Voice
1: the prayers we
have neglected to pray,
Voice
2: the community
members we have not visited,
Voice
3: the phone calls we
have not made,
Voice
4: the people we find
hard to love,
Voice
5: the dissension we
have allowed to continue,
Voice
6: the resources we
have not joyfully shared,
All:
We remember these and other failures to live in community, and we are
sorry. Amen.
Words
of Affirmation
One: God forgives us
before we ask and gives us the grace
to
move forward in our lives and in our communities.
All: Thanks be to
God. Amen.

Prayer based on Acts
2:42-47
All
who believed were together and had all things in common.
We
will live in balance with the world’s needs. We will possess only
love for one another. What we have is a gift to share with open
hands.
And
they sold their possessions and goods and distributed them to all.
We
will live within our needs rather than our means, working and sharing
with kind and generous hearts. Amen.

* Commissioning and
Benediction
One: God the
creator births and nurtures you;
God the companion calls
you by name and leads you out;
God the life-giver
sustains you on life’s journey
and will never
abandon you.
Go from this place with
the assurance of God’s love.
All: We go to share this love, trusting God who
calls and strengthens us.
