Call
to Worship
We
have been given the commandments.
How
then shall we live?
The
ten on the mountain.
The
three from Jesus’ lips.
The
one to go into the world.
How
then shall we live?
To
keep God’s name holy.
To
live our lives in the sacred.
To
love.
How
then shall we live?
How
then shall we live?
With
all that we have and all that we are,
we
will live lives that reflect God’s grace and God’s love.
With
all that we have and all that we are,
we
will worship our God!
Let
all creation shout, AMEN!
Opening
Prayer
Prince
of all Peace, God of all Grace, we open our hearts to you,
knowing
that we
are the temple in which you make your home.
Cast
out what needs to be cast out—
our
rules and our regulations that have nothing to do with your love.
Cast
out what needs to be cast out
and
fill us with all we need to be filled.
As
disciples of the Christ, as dancers in the Spirit,
as
children of the Creator, we pray. Amen.

Lenten
Tenebrae: Praying Our Confession with the Psalms
Lent
3—Psalm 19
One:
“The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament
proclaims [God’s] handiwork” (Psalm 19:1) For the most part…we
are called to lay these sins before God in confession.
Let
us pray:
All:
God of the Rainbow, God of the Stars, your hand is upon all creation.
Your fingerprint is found upon us all. Our hearts rejoice when we
worship you, and our souls are revived when we study your laws. And
yet we know the many times we fall short of your hopes for us. We
find your laws hard to follow, or difficult to remember, or terribly
inconvenient. Forgive us those times we fail to keep your
commandments. Forgive us the faults we hide, those things we are
ashamed of and consequently keep buried deep within ourselves. Free
us from this weight and touch us with light and mercy.
Silent
confession as third candle is extinguished.
You,
God, are the rock upon which we stand firm.
All:
Your forgiveness is sweeter than drippings from the honeycomb. We
give thanks this day for your ever-present love that is offered to us
and the endless supply of mercy you shower upon us. Amen.
