A thought around which to gather
Let us pause to remember that in this region we live and work and worship on lands that are, by law, the unceded territories of the Wabanaki peoples—predominantly the lands of the Mi’kmaq, Maliseet, and Passamaquoddy. May we live with respect on this land, and live in peace and friendship with its people.

WE GATHER TO WORSHIP GOD

Greeting
One: The peace of Christ be with you. All: And with your spirit.

*Introit  It’s a Song of Praise to the Maker  MV 30

Call to Worship

Opening Prayer
God, raise our expectations as we worship today.
Do not leave us content to settle for a feel-good moment,
for a tidbit of usable wisdom, for a momentary easing of stress.
Let us come seeking an encounter with the risen Christ
so that we may be transformed
to become his living body for the world.
In that holy name, we pray. Amen.

Amen.

*Hymn       Come and Find the Quiet Centre VU 374

Prayer of Confession
Loving God, we are so often afraid of ideas that confront us, of people who seem different, of challenges we would rather not face. And in response to our fears, we draw in closer. We make barriers and exclude others rather than opening our eyes and our hearts to see as you see and to love as you love. May we be more like Christ, we pray. Amen

Words of Affirmation
One: God speaks peace and stillness into our fears. God encourages and restores us so that we can see and act clearly as people of faith in God’s world. All: Thanks be to God.

WE LISTEN FOR GOD’S WORD

1 Samuel 18:1-16 David meets Saul and Jonathan.
This is the witness of the Hebrew people.
