Connecting Scripture and Life
There are many ways of knowing God, and we can experience God in different ways at different times of our lives. We may be overwhelmed by the majesty of God, be touched by the intimacy of the Spirit, or come to a deep sense of knowing through Christ.
When have you experienced God in any (or all) of these ways?

WE GATHER TO WORSHIP GOD

Passing the Peace
The peace of Christ be with you. All: And with your spirit.

*Introit Spirit of Life VU 381

Call to Worship
The Spirit in me greets the Spirit in you.
May peace—deep peace—divine peace—be within us all.
May this moment be a “kingdom moment”
when we know, with all that we are, that God is present,
with us, in us, around us.
With that knowledge, as people of Christ, we worship God.
Written by Richard Bott, Dunbar Ryerson P.C., Vancouver, B.C. Gathering, Pentecost 1 2018, p. 29. Used with permission.
Opening Prayer
You are known to us in many ways, O God.
As Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—the Trinity:
as Mother and Maker and Creator,
as Christ and Redeemer and Healer,
as Energy and Light and Comforter.
We name you in many ways, O God,
knowing that you are Wholly Mystery as well as Holy Love.
Come to us, in this time of worship, O God,
that we may know you in both familiar and surprising ways. Amen.
Written by Susan Lukey, High River U.C., High River, Alta.
Gathering, Pentecost 1 2018, p. 29. Used with permission.

*Hymn  Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty VU 315

Prayer of Confession
O God, may we never sin against your Spirit. May we never fail to see you in one another, in the stranger, in the one who needs our help and the one who offers help to us. May we be agents of healing in our communities and in our country,  and may our community of faith be a welcoming place for all who seek  wholeness and health, joy, and goodness.
(a time for personal prayers)  Amen.
Written by Suzanne Edgar, Dexter–Port Stanley P.C., Port Stanley, Ont. Gathering, Pentecost 1 2018, p. 29. Used with permission.

Pentecost! The time is now!
Lent told us, “God is love.” Easter told us, “Christ is risen.” Now Pentecost tells us, “The time is now! The Holy Spirit is here! Time to get moving!”
…Pentecost is wind and fire and water and a cacophony of tongues all speaking the language of love. It completes the movement of the
season from the Ashes of Ash Wednesday to the flames of the Holy Spirit. The breath of the Holy Spirit infuses us with new life in worship.
