WE GATHER TO WORSHIP GOD

Greeting Easter Proclamation

In celebrating the good news of Easter spreading out throughout the world—and leading up to the celebration of different nations and languages coming together again at Pentecost—for each of the Sundays of the season of Easter we are providing the Easter proclamation in a different language. Today we proclaim in French and English.

One: Alleluia! Christ est ressuscité!
All: Christ est vraiment ressuscité! Alléluia!
(pronunciation: kreest eh vray-mon reh-soos-ee-TAY! Alleluia)
One: Alleluia! Christ is risen!
All: Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia!

*Introit            Halle, Halle, Halle            VU 958

*Call to Worship   Based on Psalm 150

One: Praise!
All: Praise God in God’s sanctuary. Praise God in the skies.
One: Praise!
All: Praise God for God’s greatness and God’s mighty deeds.
One: Praise God with trumpet sound, with lute and harp.
All: Praise God with tambourine and dance, with string and pipe and cymbals.
 One: Praise!
All: Let everything that has breath praise God!
One: Come, let us worship.

*Hymn           Make a Joyful Noise            VU 820

Opening Prayer

God of promise, we come into this sanctuary remembering your great love for us. Remembering the messages of new life and resurrection that capture the essence of the Easter season. We are Easter people, drawn closer to you and to one another after Jesus’ death and resurrection. We are witnesses to your unending Easter love. May your Spirit guide us through this service and move us to share the good news of your resurrection with others. Amen.

WE LISTEN FOR GOD’S WORD

Acts 5:27–32 The disciples vow to teach about Christ.

This is the witness of the early church. All: Thanks be to God.

Psalm 150 Praise God with the sound of trumpet!  VU

*Hymn             Come, Children, Join to Sing      VU 345

Opening the Word & The Lord’s Prayer

The Gospel Acclamation

John 20:19–31 Thomas’s doubts turn to witness on seeing Jesus.

One: Hear what the Spirit is saying to the church.
All: Thanks be to God.

Opening the Word 2

WE RESPOND IN FAITH

* Hymn        Come, Let Us Sing of a Wonderful Love     VU 574

Minute for Mission & Offering Our Gifts to God

*Offering Prayer

God, we give thanks to you! Your steadfast love endures forever and ever. We dedicate these gifts to the work of sharing your love with others. Like the early followers of Jesus who were small in number, but who grew and grew over time, we ask that you multiply these gifts. May they be used to further your kin-dom. Amen.

Prayers of Thanksgiving and Intercession

WE GO TO SERVE GOD

* Hymn    Praise the Lord with the Sound of Trumpet     VU 245

*Commissioning

You are sent out in Jesus’ name – to proclaim God’s love and the message that Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed! You are witnesses to these things. Go now with confidence, knowing that you are children of God, emboldened to share God’s love with others.

*Choral Amen
