June 29th, 2014-3rd Sunday after Pentecost

Matthew 10:40–42 Jesus challenges his community, and us, to consider what it really means to welcome those who could be considered “other.” Jesus crossed boundaries of race, gender, and social class.
  • What challenges do you think there are for the church in creating a welcoming community, as Jesus calls us to? What are the opportunities? Is “welcome” part of our Mission Statement?

WE GATHER TO WORSHIP GOD

Greeting
One: The peace of Christ be with you. All: And with your spirit.
*Introit All Are Welcome, verse 1
Let us build a house where love can dwell
and all can safely live.
A place where saints and children tell
how hearts learn to forgive.
Built of hopes and dreams and visions,
rock of faith and vault of grace.
Here the love of Christ shall end divisions:
Refrain
All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

All: We come to be calmed and comforted by the Spirit.
One: Welcome to all who feel complacent, comfortable, or detached.
All: We come to be stirred by Christ’s message for us.
One: All are welcome here. Come as you are.
All: Together, we will rest in God’s presence,
be calmed by the Spirit, and be stirred by Christ’s message. Together we will welcome one another as we gather for worship.

Opening Prayer
Christ, you hold us in your warm embrace. You already welcome each of us exactly as we are, and you hold us close to you. Your embrace gathers all of us into a community that you have created. Amen.
