WE GATHER TO WORSHIP GOD

Greeting
One: The peace of Christ be with you. All: And with your spirit.
* Introit           We Are One Verse 2           VU 402

Call to Worship Based on Psalm 104:24–34

One: What a wildly wonderful world, God! The earth overflows with your amazing creations.
All: The deep, wide sea brims with fish: sardines and sharks and salmon.
One: Ships travel on the waters and great sea creatures play in them.
All: Every creature depends on you for food. You open your hand and they eat from it.
One: You send your spirit to sustain and renew.
All: May the glory of God last forever!
One: Let us sing to God all our lives. All: Praise God!
Opening Prayer

Holy Spirit,

diverse and varied as we are, you gather us together,

like a mother bird stretching wide her wings.

Today we draw strength from your life and energy,

and lift our hearts in praise to you. Amen.

* Hymn           She Comes Sailing on the Wind           VU 380

Prayer for Wholeness

One: Pentecost God,

thank you for the gift of the Spirit;

for the power and energy the Spirit brings

and for the knowledge that we are not alone.

Nevertheless, sometimes we find it hard to believe in things we

cannot see or touch.

All: We remember the

 times we have not recognized the Spirit’s still small voice,

the times we have ignored the Spirit’s prompting,

the times we have not acknowledged the Spirit’s work around

 us,
the times we have resisted the Spirit’s transforming power.

We remember and we are sorry.

Pour out your Spirit anew;

blow through us and ignite us once more. Amen.
Words of Affirmation
One: Our God is always making all things new;
our shortcomings are forgotten
and we can begin again, with God’s Spirit as our helper.
All: Thanks be to God! Amen.

WE LISTEN FOR GOD’S WORD

Acts 2:1–21 The Holy Spirit comes in wind and flame.
This is the witness of the early church. All: Thanks be to God.

God who is in the spirit of Pentecost you have given us so much:

your Spirit to enable us

your love to support us;

*Hymn I Feel The Winds of God VU 625
Sacrament of Communion Insert, cover of Voices United
Distribution Hymn          God Is So Good           Printed
God is so good;
God is so good;
God is so good;
Oh! So good to us!
Taste, oh taste and see
The goodness of the Lord;
With the best of wheat
He feeds us all.
The Lord is our shepherd,
Nothing shall we want.
He has prepared
A banquet for us.
The eyes of all look hopefully to You,
And You give us food in due season:
Living Bread, the Gift of the earth,
Fruit of the vine to drink.
My soul longs for You, my God,
As a deer longs for water;
I will go to the altar of God,
The God of my gladness and Joy.

*An Affirmation of Faith         An Excerpt from The Song of Faith
The fullness of life includes moments of unexpected inspiration
and courage lived out,
experiences of beauty, truth, and goodness,
blessings of seeds and harvest,
friendship and family, intellect and sexuality,
the reconciliation of persons through justice
and communities living in righteousness,
and the articulation of meaning.
And so we sing of God the Spirit,
who from the beginning has swept over the face of creation, animating all energy and matter
and moving in the human heart.
We sing of God the Spirit,
faithful and untameable,
who is creatively and redemptively active in the world.
The Spirit challenges us to celebrate the holy
not only in what is familiar,
but also in that which seems foreign.
We sing of the Spirit,
who speaks our prayers of deepest longing
and enfolds our concerns and confessions,
transforming us and the world.
WE GO TO SERVE GOD
* Hymn           How Great Thou Art           VU 238
* Commissioning and Benediction
God the Creator, Divine Wisdom, blesses us with gifts and grace;
God the Pain-Bearer, Divine Word, gives us good news to share;
God the Life-Giver, Divine Spirit, works in our lives to bring
faith, hope, and love.
We go to share God’s gifts and grace,
to be witnesses to the good news of Jesus,

and live in the Spirit.
 *Choral Amen
