ST. DAVID’S ANNOUNCEMENTS
A
Pastoral Aires Concert at the Causeway will be held at St.
David’s United Church on Friday, August 16th at 7 pm. in
Port Hastings. Fiddlers, pianists, singers and a bagpiper will be
featured. Tea and a light lunch to follow. Admission is a donation at
the door. Sponsored by St. David’s United Church Congregation
for the Building Fund.
What follows is an account of the recent meeting attended by Chairs of the Boards, Ian MacKinnon and Dave Chapman and minister, Nan Corrigan:
Meeting
of St. Peter’s-Grand Lake-Loch Lomond with St. Mark’s and St.
David’s 20130716
Present
were: Glen Cameron-Clerk of Session-Grand River
Dana
Feltmate-Pastoral Charge Supervisor for St. Peter’s
Marcia
MacEwan-Clerk of Session-St. Peter’s
Valerie
Hiltz-Corresponding Secretary-St Peter’s
Dale
Machin-M&P Chair-St. Peter’s
Sherry
Baccardax-Treasurer-St. Peter’s
Nan
Corrigan-Minister St. Mark’s & St. David’s
Ian
MacKinnon-Board Chair-St. David’s
Dave
Chapman-Board Chair-St. Mark’s
Valerie read the motion
regarding shared ministry from the minutes of the latest Official
Board meeting of St. Peter’s pastoral charge.
Grand River now holds one
service per year, Loch Lomond has been holding weekly services from
May to October, but now they are down to two services per month
during this period and they are heading toward one service per year.
Municipal Tax rules and
Charitable Organization rules mandate two meetings per year to
maintain status so these two points may soon lose this status.
The fact that St. Mark’s and
St. David’s are in Inverness-Guysborough presbytery and St. Peter’s
is in Sydney presbytery was noted, but was not expected to be a
significant impediment to reaching some sort of agreement.
There was a wide-ranging
discussion about the form a shared ministry might take. It was
decided that we should open this subject up to discussion with our
boards and congregations during the summer, with a tentative future
meeting to be held after our respective boards meet in September.
St. Peter’s-Grand Lake-Loch
Lomond have also broached similar discussions with West Bay. A
possible subject for future consideration would be a three-way shared
ministry with St. Peter’s, West Bay and St. Mark’s-St. David’s.
