88th Anniversary of United Church of Canada
3rd After Pentecost-47th Anniversary St. Mark’s U.C.

The readings this week remind us that God’s compassion and grace is limitless, and knows no boundaries. Each and every one can both receive and share this wondrous power; each and every one is a worthy candidate of God’s grace and favour, and a minister of the same. How have you received God’s grace? Where might you offer it?

WE GATHER TO WORSHIP GOD

Greeting

One: The peace of Christ be with you. All: And with your spirit.
* Introit Spirit of Life VU 381
Spirit of Life, come unto me.
Sing in my heart all the stirrings of compassion.
Blow in the wind, rise in the sea;
move in the hand, giving life the shape of justice.
Roots hold me close; wings set me free;
Spirit of Life, come to me, come to me.
*Call to Worship
One: At times our days and our dreams may seem dry.
All: Our resources may seem to be running short.
One: We may feel far from home,
All: but God will meet us on the road. God will nourish our weary souls.
One: God can water our dry places and bring forth new fruit of how we may live and thrive. Come, meet us here!
All: Come, sense God’s renewing welcome!
* Hymn Praise the Lord with the Sound of Trumpet VU 245
Opening Prayer
Whether we have journeyed a long way or have just come down the street, we come seeking living water to quench our thirst. We all seek spiritual food to feed our spirits. We gather, O God, to be fed by you. Amen.

WE LISTEN FOR GOD’S WORD

1 Kings 17:8–24 The widow’s jar of flour and jug of oil
Hear what the Spirit is saying to the church. All: Thanks be to God.
Psalm 146 As long as I live, I will praise God. VU 868
* Hymn   Small Things Count  VU 361
Opening the Word/Children's Time & The Lord’s Prayer
Gospel Acclamation
Matthew 5:1-16 The Beatitudes and Salt and Light
This is the gospel of Jesus Christ. All: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Reflection

WE RESPOND IN FAITH

* Hymn Rejoice, the Lord is King VU 213
Minute for Mission & Offering Our Gifts to God
* Offering Prayer
Just as you did for the widow of Zarephath, we know that our jar is filled by you; our pitcher is filled by you. For all that you give to us, we give you thanks, and we return a portion here. May our gifts, in their turn, fill another’s jar and replenish another’s pitcher. Amen.

Prayers of Thanksgiving and Intercession
