Lions Club Dinner

After 50 years, the Port Hawkesbury Lions Club held their last meeting at St. Mark's Church hall on Saturday, June 15th, before disbanding. Over these years, this extremely dedicated club of men and women has been responsible for fundraising over 2.5 million dollars and donating it to the people of Port Hawkesbury and beyond. At this meeting they generously distributed their final fund-raised $40,000 to local groups. Their disappearance from the Port Hawkesbury fabric will be sorely missed by this community. Unfortunately, volunteerism is becoming a scarce activity in our world.

Members of the Lions Club and their guests raved about the delicious, perfectly cooked roast beef dinner and scrumptious desserts provided by the ladies of St. Mark's. Great team work girls!!!

St. Mark's  ladies were so busy preparing the dinner for the Lions Club, that they
did not have time to stop for a photo opportunity! Result: blurred photo!

Karen, Vida and Emily were part of the prep and serve crew.

Lions President Donnie MacPherson welcomed everyone to the final meeting of the club.

Bill Charlton accepted a donation on behalf of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 43.

Dave Chapman was very grateful on behalf of Inverness County Cares for a cheque to help feed orphans in Nairobi.

Clark Brander, Chair of St. Mark's Trustees and Finance Committee accepted a cheque from the Lions.

All of the recipients who received gifts of money from the Lions Club to further their charity work.
