February 11th 2018—Transfiguration Sunday

A thought around which to gather as we worship—Stories of transformation capture our imaginations. We love a good conversion story or a feel-good narrative about changing our community for the better. But stories of transfiguration and resurrection are harder to grasp, and at times threatening to our sense of what is and what is possible. “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.” Said Marianne Williamson in her advocacy for the rights of children. It is true we hold ourselves back from fully loving the world and the power that love can bring to change it. It is also true we can be skeptics rather than witnesses to the divine power of resurrection.

Call to Worship

Go up to a high mountain, to the thin place where you can meet God.

One: Listen for the Word – present and pressing,
All: challenging injustice, urging compassion, calling for peace.
One: Find your place with saints and prophets and Jesus himself,
All: whose lives give inspiration, whose words encourage and guide.
One: Move through this time of worship – meeting, looking, listening, preparing.
All: God, send your Spirit to be with us and show us how to live.
