ESSENTIALS UCC NEWSLETTER

The United Church of Canada E-ssentials - February 5, 2018

Moderator's Lenten Message

Moderator Jordan Cantwell invites us to take time each day this Lenten season to practice seeing ourselves as God sees us; not as perfect, but as beloved. You can find additional Lenten resources in our Worship section.

The 43rd General Council Is Coming

The 43rd General Council of The United Church of Canada is coming up this summer, July 21-27 in Oshawa! Visit the new website for GC43 for all the latest news about the council, sign up to receive email updates, plus information about the exciting Festival of Faith, Alvin Dixon Memorial Run/Walk, and other exciting events happening as part of GC43. You can also join us on Facebook for "GC43 Conversations"!

Black History Month

Black History (or African Heritage) Month is celebrated in February. Officially recognized in Canada since 1996, this is a time to honour the contributions and struggles of peoples of African descent. Find out more about the United Church and Black History Month and use these worship resources to mark the occasion in your congregations.

Iridesce Wants to Hear Your Stories!

Moderator Jordan Cantwell invites all people affected by The United Church of Canada’s 1988 decision to share their stories with Iridesce: The Living Apology Project. The whole church is invited to participate, no matter how they identify—as straight, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, Two-Spirit, and more. For more information see the Iridesce website.

Reminder! Flourishing in Ministry Survey

Last week, United Church ministry personnel were sent an email invitation to participate in the Flourishing in Ministry survey, including the referral code for United Church participants. The results from the survey will help shape policies and programs for vital ministry personnel. You have until Feb. 12, 2018 to complete the survey.

For more information, contact Rev. Adam Hanley. For more information about the survey and the work of the Work Well research group, view this introductory video.

Why I Believe

Lent begins Feb. 14, 2018. The new United Church Lent devotional, Why I Believe, is now available in print or as an e-book. This book offers the testimonies of a variety of members and friends of the church who told us about their personal faith journeys. We are excited to share their candid, thoughtful reflections. What does it mean to follow Jesus, remain faithful, and choose hope, especially during times of uncertainty and doubt? Get your copy now.
