During this four-week season, we
experience the deep impulse of God’s word
that calls forth creation and stirs life. We affirm
our kinship with everything God has
created and is creating, are made conscious
of the crisis of human domination, and encouraged
to live in and toward a vision of
new heavens and new earth.
About the photograph:
Golden Larch (photograph). This photograph was taken on a hike in the Banff National Park system of the Rocky Mountain Range in Alberta, Canada, at the high-elevation Lake O’Hara on September 14, 2007. The Larch is the
only Northern Hemisphere conifer (cone bearing) tree that is also deciduous in that its needles change from green to yellow in the autumn, fall to the ground, and are re-grown in the spring.
Chris says that this photo was taken early one crystal clear
morning just as the sun was rising, putting the mountain
behind the tree in shadow and causing the yellow needles on
the Larch to glow. The photograph has also been published
