Trinity Sunday

* please stand as able
St. Augustine, more than 1,500 years ago, wrote  that “singing is praying twice.” And so we gather today, loving God, God of music and God of prayers, God of mystery and God of creation, to bring our songs and prayers to you.
  Come, all you people, come and praise your Maker! Come, worship the Lord!

Organ Prelude

Processional   -  Trinity Hymn           - Please stand
God, Creator, you have shaped us,
Formed the earth and sky above;
As we live our lives with passion
Help us serve with grace and love.
      Christ, companion, may you guide us,
      Lift each heart and soothe the soul;
      You, our teacher, prophet, healer,
      Light our path and make us whole.
Holy Spirit, blow among us;
Give us hope for each new day;
Show us courage, grace, and wisdom
As we travel on our way.
Let Us Pray Together
Holy Trinity – you are sacred Three.
We pray to you –
Creator – that we may be routed deeply in this life;
Christ – that we may be rooted deeply in this life;
Spirit – that we may soar beyond possibilities.
May your comforting ways be our ways. Amen

Call to Worship
Hey… we are the people of God!
Not because of our brains.
Not because of our looks.
Not because of whom we know.
Hey… we are the people of God!
Because God loves us.
Because Jesus lived and died for us.
Because the Spirit gathers us together.
Hey… we are the people of God!

Thanks be to God!

Hymn:             Glory Be to God Creator                                Printed
Glory be to God, Creator,
Glory be to God, the Son.
Glory be to God, the Spirit,
Holy Mystery, three in One.
Let your Spirit dance within us,
As we worship you this day.
Let your love enfold us gently,
In our work and in our play.
      Glory be to God, the potter,
      Mould and shape us as we grow.
      Let your loving hands surround us.
      Be the joy we deeply know.
      Teach us how to feel your presence,
      As we seek to see your face.
      On the journey, as we travel,
      May we find your warm embrace.
Glory be to your Son, Jesus
Let his light shine all around.
May he welcome friend and stranger,
To this place on holy ground.
Let us reach so we can touch him,
To find healing, love and grace.
In our need and in our hunger
May he feed us in this place.
      Glory be to you, the Spirit,
      Holy breath and source of life.
      May you stir us into action,
      Seeking peace in place of strife.
      Walk beside us, move in places,
      Call us to your joy anew,
      So that we may seek to serve you,
      In the things we say and do.
Holy Mystery, faith unfolding,
Dazzle us once more we pray.
Grateful for your loving actions,
Let your web of life not fray.
With you wisdom and compassion,
May we love the earth we share,
Living wholly, laughing deeply,
Singing your joy everywhere!

Opening Prayer

We come to this place where we find refuge and peace.
Come, God, be among us in our times of need.
We come to this place where justice is proclaimed and compassion is shared.
Come, Christ, be among us to challenge us and comfort us.
We come to this place where we are called to share and to serve.
Come, Holy Spirit, be among us with care and concern for all.
We come to this place where the past is
Remembered, the present is renewed, and the
Future is full of excitement and hope.
Come, Three-in-One, One-in-Three, be among us as seek to be transformed by the power of the resurrected one.

We Listen For God’s Word

Leader: Loving God, you speak to us in so many ways: in the song of a bird, in the babbling of a brook, in the voices of our friends, in the hug from Mom or Dad, in the songs we sing, and in the stories of the Bible. Speak to us now through the reading of scripture. Help us to hear your voice and follow the way of Jesus. Amen

Hymn: God Created Earth and Heaven
God created earth and heaven,
God commanded light to be,
Separated light from darkness.
Set the bounds for land and sea.
      Let us praise God, our Creator,
      Let us thank God as we should,
      For the gifts of all creation
      Which God’s love has made so good.
Trinity Sunday This Sunday is Trinity Sunday – the first Sunday after Pentecost
A time of year that Ministers, Priests, Synods, Teachers have, for more years than this church has existed, thought is good and wise to remind the millions of seekers – the millions of faithful- for whom they care – that God is a mystery which is best understood in three ways.
First – As Creator – or Father
Second – As redeemer – or Son
Third – as sustainer – or Spirit
God is one, Yet, God is three.
      God is here. – Yet God is everywhere.
      God is might. – Yet God is tender.
      God is just. – Yet God had mercy.
      God is spirit. – Yet God takes flesh.
      God is in Christ. – Christ is in Us.
      God is Spirit and the Spirit blows where it will,
      Yet the Spirit abides in our hearts.
God is one. – yet, God is three.

We Respond in Faith

Prayer of the People  (Unison)
Almighty and merciful God, from whom comes all that is good, we praise you for all your mercies: for your goodness that has created us, your grace that has sustained us, your wisdom that has challenged us, your patience that has borne with us, and your love that has redeemed us. Help us to love you and all your children, and to be thankful for all your gifts, by serving you and delighting to do your will. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Lord’s Prayer:            Our Father                   # 960
Invitation to Offer Our Gifts
Leader: Music and laughter, hands and minds, curiosity and compassion: what an abundance of gifts we have! All these gifts are symbolized in our offering. Let us commit ourselves in service, as we worship God with our offering.
Doxology:                   # 537
Offering Prayer:
Gifts gathered, the church served,
Gifts gathered from those who have plenty,
Gathered from those who don’t have enough.
Gifts gathered, the way of Jesus Christ followed;
Gathered to bring friendship to the lonely,
Gathered to bring compassion to the downhearted,
Gathered so that worship sparkles with song,
Gathered so that prayer is offered joyfully and hopefully.
Gifts gathered, the needs of the world brought close to home,
Gifts gathered, the way of Jesus Christ followed;
Gathered to bring compassion to the downhearted,
Gathered to bring justice to the oppressed,
Gathered to bring community to the lonely,
Gathered to give a voice to the silenced.
Gifts gathered, the church served,
Gifts gathered, the needs of the world brought close to home.
You will bless these gifts, most Holy One. Amen

Minute for Mission

Hymn:             God of All Blessings

God of all blessings,
Maker of all things,
Spirit breath blowing,
Sacred and sweet.
Touch us with gladness,
Teach us with wisdom,
Feel our hands, and
Walk with our feet.
      Bring us together,
      Into one body,
      You who once lived and
      Felt as we do.
      Open our hearts to
      Both joy and sadness.
      Sing us a new song,
      Steadfast and true.
Heal us from hurts, we
Bring to each other.
Teach us to mend, and
Alter our ways.
Lead us to wholeness,
With loving kindness
Wrapped in forgiveness,
Wisdom and grace.
Sending Forth:
Go into the world: dance, laugh, sing and create.
  We go with the assurance of your blessing. O God.
Go into the world: risk, explore, discover, and love.
  We go with the assurance of your grace, O God.
Go into the world: believe, hope, struggle, and remember.
  We go with the assurance of your love, O God.
  Thanks be to God!
Choral Amen
