The Ten Thousand Villages Sale at St. Mark’s on Saturday Oct 24 was another success story. The sales total, before taxes, was $11,006. This was down slightly from our last year total of $12,056 but we were still very pleased—considering how people are tightening the belt with the new economy. Ten Thousand Villages estimates that it takes the profit from $3500 in sales to support a family of four for a year. So St. Mark’s sale will support three families for a year.
We had a great day, with the sunshine bringing out lots of shoppers, both young and older. There were lots of volunteers and of course the Cubs were out with their apples. The products are always varied and interesting with lots of new items for repeat shoppers. The volunteers with us for the weekend were Lee and Carol Swartzinger from Oregon. They were both a pleasure to work with and they had lots of praise for our very efficient volunteers. The workers were treated to a lovely lunch thanks to Barb MacIntyre and Lorna Harvey. Special thanks to Jean Wilson for hosting the Swartzingers for two nights.
Everything went so well –I can only say ‘thank you’ to all who made it happen—whether you put up a poster, unpacked, packed up, baked, wrapped or swept the floor after it was all over—you helped make it happen. Thank you!! And to all the shoppers in the community - another huge thank you for your continued support of Ten Thousand Villages. Mark your calendar for the same weekend next year!
