Connecting with life
All are called, and all have ministry for the building of God’s realm. Call can change through life.
■■ What does call mean when we begin to lose cognitive
and physical capabilities?
■■ How are the whole people of God in your church
encouraged in their gifts and giftedness?
■■ In what ways does your congregation work together to
build up the Body of Christ? Who is feeling excluded?
How might all gifts be celebrated, encouraged, and valued?

WE GATHER TO WORSHIP GOD
Greeting
One: The peace of Christ be with you. All: And with your spirit.
*Introit There Is Room for All MV 62
Call to Worship
One: We gather as God’s community
All: for we are the Body of Christ.
One: We come as gifted people, All: to worship our God.
One: We come as a community,
All: to be strengthened in our gifts.
One: We come united as friends of the one spirit
All: who calls us to hope and to build each other up in love.
One: Come, let us worship.
Opening Prayer
Christ Jesus, we are your body,
and so, with joy and gratitude we gather as your people.
You have crafted many parts to that body, given each of us
particular gifts,
and you call us to use them in building up our community
in this place.
Some of us know well the gifts you have entrusted to us,
others of us still wonder what our gifts might be.
Some of us have seen our gifts change as we have grown and changed; others have felt the constancy of a gift as a lifelong friend.
As we worship you today, help us claim, reclaim, and discover anew those gifts with which you have equipped us. Amen.
*Hymn We Are One VU 402
Prayer for Healing (Prayer of Confession) Based on Psalm 51
Response: Have mercy on us.
Words of Affirmation
The good news is that God never casts us away; we are always present to God.
Through Jesus, our lives are rebuilt and granted restoration, renewal, and nourishment that never perish. Let this knowledge nourish us and give life to us and, through us, the world.
WE LISTEN FOR GOD’S WORD
Ephesians 4:1-16 Speak the truth in love.
This is the witness of the early church. All: Thanks be to God.
Psalm 51 Create in me a new heart, O God. Ref. 1, VU 776
*Hymn Just as I Am VU 508

John 6: 24-35 The crowd asks for another sign from Jesus.

* Hymn Halle, Halle, Halle VU 958
*Commissioning and Benediction
Our world is also God’s world,
and we are God’s gifted people,
ponder and claim your gift,
find the places where you are being called to share it.
God is love, and we are the Body of Christ.
God calls us to share our gifts in fullest measure.
Go now, knowing you are directed by the Spirit and affirmed by Jesus to love and serve the world.
*Choral Amen
