NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS SUNDAY AUGUST 21ST 2016

Please note that below are new announcements for this week. To see the remaining August announcements, scroll down to previous weeks.

Help Shape the Future of the United Church
Learn about and then voice your opinion on the remits that are now before the church. It is vitally important that the governing body of every pastoral charge and presbytery cast a vote on all applicable remits. An absolute majority is needed for the remits to pass, not just a majority of those that vote. If passed by an absolute majority, each remit will go to the 43rd General Council 2018 for approval. If a governing body of a pastoral charge or presbytery does not vote, that is considered a vote AGAINST the remit question.

Study documents for Remit 1: Three Council Model will be circulated in September with viewing of the United Church webinar at St. Mark’s on October 4th at 7:00 p.m. Remit 1 will be voted on by your church board at their October meeting.

Scheduled meeting of Ministry and Personnel Committee: September 17th at 10:00 a.m.
In the United Church, we describe ourselves as “being in ministry together,” recognizing that the work of paid ministry personnel is only part of the ministry that takes place in the pastoral charge. The M&P Committee oversees relationships within the pastoral charge ministry, particularly the roles and functions of paid leaders and employees (such as the office secretary and any custodial staff). The M&P Committee has a dual role: it is consultative and supportive.
One of the duties of the Ministry and Personnel Committee is to support communication between the congregation and ministry personnel and staff. If you have concerns or affirmations for ministry personnel and staff, you are encouraged first to convey those directly to them. You may also wish to make the M & P Committee aware of celebrations or concerns and they are glad to receive these in written form. Members of your Ministry and Personnel Committee are Valli Ross, Vida Hood, Marlene Morrison, John MacLeod Langley, Susan Langley, Maxine Smith.

Baptism will be offered on September 18th – Anyone wishing to be Baptized is asked to speak to Nan by August 21st.

We Gather to Worship God
Welcome and *greeting one another with the Peace of Christ.
*Call to Worship
People of summer, gather your hearts for worship.
We bring our hearts, and all the love and pain in them.
People of sunshine and rain, gather your minds for worship.
We gather our minds, and all the thoughts and doubts inside.
People of growing things, gather your spirits
for worship in this place.
Our spirits are gathered, our minds and hearts are ready!
Let us worship God!
