WE GATHER TO WORSHIP GOD

Greeting
One: The peace of Christ be with you. All: And with your spirit

*Introit             Arise, Your Light Is Come, v.1              VU 79
Arise, your light is come!
The Spirit's call obey;
show forth the glory of your God,
which shines on you today.

*Call to Worship       Based on Psalm 19:1-2
One: The heavens are telling the glory of God,
All: and the firmament proclaims God’s handiwork.
One: Day to day pours forth speech,
All: and night to night declares knowledge.
One: We give thanks to God who has created all that we have.
All: And we sing praise to God who has created all that we are. Come let us worship our God.

*Hymn                Here I Am, Lord               VU 509

Opening Prayer
Gracious God, we come before you this morning knowing that what you call us to be and want for us is sometimes at odds with what the world expects from us. Sometimes we feel on the edge between the world we live in and the world you call us to be a part of. Show us your way, O Holy One, that we may learn how to be about your ministry even as we live on the edge. Open our hearts to receive your word and your guidance for our lives.

WE LISTEN FOR GOD’S WORD

Jeremiah 1:4–10 Before you were formed in the womb, I set you apart.
One: This is the witness of the Hebrew people.
All: Thanks be to God.

Psalm 71:1-6 God is our fortress and sheltering rock. VU789 Pt.1

* Hymn               Though I May Speak                VU 372

Opening the Word & The Lord’s Prayer

The Gospel Acclamation

Luke 4:21-30 Contemplative Reading and Reflection
using the Common English Bible translation.

WE RESPOND IN FAITH

* Hymn             Lord of the Dance             VU 352

Minute for Mission & Offering Our Gifts to God

* Offering Prayer
Holy and Living God, Doing your will, living out the ministry you put before us, can be scary. It is not just our tithes and offerings that you ask of us – you ask of us everything. In knowing that everything we are and everything we have comes from you, we realize that what you ask of us is really not about us but about you. Show us how to live out the ministry you have called us to do at all the edges of our lives so that we can be truly faithful to you. Amen.

Prayers of Thanksgiving and Intercession

WE GO TO SERVE GOD

* Hymn          I'm Gonna Live So God Can Use Me            VU 575

*Commissioning
One: God’s call to us drives us to the edge.
All: To places of hurting; to places of need.
One: In those places we find hope and help
because we are not alone.
All: God goes with us.
One: Yes, God goes with us. Together we go out to serve at all those edgy places where we are called to serve, ever mindful that we are not alone.
All: Thanks be to God.

*Choral Amen
