A letter of thanks from Dianne Dzokotoe

Luke 9-11.. 9 Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terribly frightened, 10 but the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news of great joy for everyone! 11 The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born tonight in Bethlehem, the city of David! (NIV)

It’s December 2009 and that means it's Christmas. Where did the time go? What a year! We have been very busy. Along with our other jobs, I have been in the Finance office helping out and over the past year Dan have been acting director and also acting ADAHR, which is Associate Director for Administration and Human Resources. FINALLY, we have a new Director, GILLBT is looking for an ADAHR and a Finance Manager so we soon should be able to get back to our normal jobs in the VMS department.

Dan and I were in the U.S.A. for a month, and then I came home to visit mom, my sister Christine and family. Dan went back to Ghana where he has been very busy. It was wonderful being home, but I certainly complained about the weather. I was cold every day.

Now, Today, I am still complaining about the weather. it’s HOT, and I mean HOT here. It certainly is not a white Christmas!!!!!! Its 98F. No wind, no rain, no nothing only HOT and dry weather. Oh, how just for today I would like a little cooler weather.

I have been very busy since I returned to Ghana. I was asked to close of the financial year for the organization and that meant long hours and even weekends. The books are now closed, but I still have to set up for the next Fiscal year.

So, it’s Christmas!!!! Do we think about the birth of Christ, or are we thinking about what we wanted for Christmas, or what Santa will bring or not bring.

After being home I brought things back for our girls for Christmas. I could not help myself and think how excited the girls will be on Christmas morning to see all that they will have from my home. I then had to stop myself and look the true meaning of Christmas--Was the meaning of Christmas all that we were going to give the girls from home OR was it the birth of Christ? What about the people in the villages who have nothing? Shouldn’t they still have a wonderful Christmas and rejoice with the angels that the savior, the Messiah, the Lord has been born in the city of Bethlehem!!

The more I thought about it the more, I realized that I too, was thinking about the wonderful gifts that the girls will have and not the true meaning of Christmas. So on Christmas Day after the girls opened up their gifts, we got them to pick something out of what they received and then we will bring it to a child in the village. This way we will show the girls that it’s not just the gifts but they too will not forget the meaning of Christmas. Also it will show some poor children that God do love them, and this gift is a gift of Love.

So this Christmas I truly want to say “Thank You” to Rev. Sheldon, for everything that you have done for me while I was home. It was really appreciated. Also, to St. Marks and St. David’s. You all showed me God’s Love and I had a wonderful time fellowshipping with you both. I certainly look forward to being with you all again.

For people who have given money to help out some families here, we will put it to good use here in Ghana and I will let you know how we are going to use it.

So this Christmas season, Dan and I have tried to remember all the people God as put in our path over this year. WE have remembered the people that came to know Christ as their Lord and Savior. We thank God that many years ago our savior, Christ the Lord was born in Bethlehem so that the world can hear the gospel and have eternal life.
From our House to Yours…..

Merry Christmas, and all God’s blessings for the New Year.

Love in Christ Jesus,

Dianne, Dan and the girls.

2010 World Vision 30 Hour Famine

The 2010 World Vision 30 Hour Famine was held at St Mark's United Church April 16-17th. There were 18 teenagers ranging in age from 12 to 18. The participants were members of St Marks, St Davids, Girl guides, Pathfinders and friends. The group raised more than $1,700. Sponsors of the event included St. Marks UCW, Superstore, Sobeys, Dairy Queen, Subway, Papa's Pub, KFC and 101.5 The Hawk. World Vision is dedicating a portion of the proceeds to the relief efforts taking place in Haiti.

The younger girls spent a lot of time jumping rope and playing dodge ball - the victims in the ball game were the adults as the ball seemed to gravitate toward us!

Eagerly eating their food after 30 hours without.
