Tuesday morning (November 17th) the Olympic Flame made its way through Port Hawkesbury with the help of Flame Bearer Rilla McLean.
Rilla's Story
In early October, I received a phone call telling me that my name had been suggested as a community representative sponsored by Coca-Cola to carry the Olympic torch. I agreed and so began my journey to register online, receive information by snail mail and my uniform by courier. The morning of November 17 was a memorable one as I wheeled my 300 meters with the Olympic torch from Mcdonalds to the Civic Centre on Reeves Street. The flame was extinguished twice by the wind. It was relit and didn't go out again when three Olympic officials linked arms and formed a human shield in front of the flaming torch. Thanks to all who came to cheer and wave.
