St. Mark's United Church Mission & Outreach Committee is hosting a sale of beautiful, fairly-traded gifts benefiting artisans from more than 30 Developing countries. Ten Thousand Villages is a project of Mennonite Central Committee, the outreach arm of the Mennonite and Brethren in Christ churches in North America.

Attention Quilters

All quilters and those interested in quilting are invited to join the St. Mark's Quilters each Wednesday, beginning September 29th from 1:00 p.m. - 4 p.m.

House Tour Meeting

On November 14th a brief meeting will be held following the Sunday Service to discuss the upcoming HOUSE TOUR in which St. David's will be participating in keeping with their tradition of decorating for the Advent Season. Decorating will take place on November 27th at 9:00 a.m. Members will be invited to offer suggestions, expertise or perhaps artifacts/decorations so that St. David's will turn out in fine Victorian fashion for the House Tour/Advent Season.

October 17 ST. DAVID'S ANNIVERSARY

October 17th St. David's will hold their Anniversary Service. Pot luck will be served following the service. Members of St. David's are asked to bring a salad, casserole, rolls, etc., which will be shared. Dessert will be provided.

Fishcake and Beans Supper October 8th at the Port Hastings Firehall

On October 8th, St. David's U.C.W. will host a Bean & Fishcake Supper at the Port Hastings Firehall. Support from the congregation by working in the kitchen, serving, baking beans, etc., would be appreciated.

Please contact Maxine Smith (625-1516) if you are available to support this important fund raising event which will be held during the week of Celtic Colours.
OCTOBER 3rd IS WORLD WIDE COMMUNION SUNDAY

St. David's Needs a Sunday School Superintendent

St. David's Nominating Committee is looking for a Sunday School Superintendent. Anyone interested, please contact George Fox (625-0527), Catherine MacLean (625-0891), or Heather Deschenes (625-0618).

St. David's Congregational Meeting, October 3rd

On October 3rd, the Trustees are requesting that the Congregation meet following Church Service to elect three people to sit on the Joint Needs Assessment Committee. As we are all aware, our minister is leabing and we need to search for a minister to replace Rev. LeGrow.

St. Mark's Congregational Meeting, October 3rd

On October 3rd, a congregational meeting will be held immediately following Church Service to select a Joint Needs Assessment Committee. Members and adherents are eligible to sit on this committee, who will along with St. David's committee and two members from Presbytery, will prepare a Church/Community Profile for St. Mark's and St. David's. When this process is complete, Presbytery will declare a vacancy in the Pastoral Charge. A Joint Search Committee will be put in place and the search for a minister will begin to fill the vacancy. Please plan to attend this important meeting.

Rev. Sheldon LeGrow is Leaving the Strait Area

It is with regret that our Pastoral Charges have received Rev. Sheldon LeGrow's resignation. He will terminate his employment at the end of November. He plans to take two weeks Study Leave prior to the end of the month. We wish Sheldon and Christine well in their new home in Gander, Newfoundland.

St. Mark's Special Events Group

St. Mark's Special Events Group (UCW) will meet in St. Mark's Parlour on Monday, October 4th at noon. This will be a fall planning meeting. A light lunch will be provided. All interested ladies are invited.

Baptisms at St. Mark's, August 8th

On Sunday, August 8th, Ava Leigh MacMullin and Marcy Elizabeth Langdon were initiated into the body of Christ through Holy Baptism at St. Mark's United Church.

Marcy Elizabeth Langdon with grandmother Anna Marie Langley and mother Elizabeth.

Marcy's brothers also took part in the Baptism.

Ava Leigh MacMullin with her mother Mallory and Grandparents Brenda and Clifford Smith.

St. David's Yard Sale

In preparation for the up-coming Yard Sale at St. David's Church on June 19th, the congregation is asked to drop off any articles that they no longer need at the Church Hall.

Grad & Sunday School Closing

Sunday, June 6th was very busy at St. Mark's. It was the closing for the Sunday School with presentations of diplomas to the children. Also in recognition for all their work, teachers, Al & Rev. Sheldon were presented with gifts of appreciation. It was also a celebration for our Graduates with a special message from Rev. Sheldon and with a cake after the service.

Sunday, May 30th Choir Service

The Choir conducted the services at both St. Mark's and St. David's On Sunday, May 30th in the absence of Rev. Sheldon. The music was greatly appreciated by both congregations.

Rev. LeGrow will be on study leave on June 20th and on vacation all of July and the 1st Sunday in August,

St. Mark's 44th Anniversary Service

St. Mark's Anniversary Service with Communion will be held on Sunday, June 13th at 9:30 a.m. Light refreshments will be served. There will be no service at St. David's. St. David's congregation is invited to celebrate this event with St. Mark's. All are welcome to attend.

85th Anniversary of the United Church of Canada

On June 6th Inverness-Guysborough Presbytery will hold a service with Communion at 7 p.m. at St. Mark's to celebrate the 85th Anniversary of the United Church of Canada. A light lunch will be served following the service.

St. Mark's Ways & Means Committee

St. Mark's Ways & Means Committee is catering a buffet supper for 150 seniors from the Sydney area on Monday, May 31st and a roast turkey dinner for the Annual Girl Guides Meeting on Thursday, June 3rd. We are very fortunate to have many people who are donating food and offering to work, but it would be greatly appreciated if you could contribute towards the cost of some of the groceries if you cannot volunteer otherwise. Your donation will be receipted for income tax purposed.

Choir Practice

Choir Practice will be held at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2nd. We are preparing for the Inverness-Guysborough Presbytery Service celebrating the 85th Anniversary of the United Church of Canada to be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday evening, June 6th as well as St. Mark's 44th Anniversary Service to be held on Sunday, June 13th at 9:30 a.m.
