REFLECT

Lighting of the Christ Candle in the Lenten Triad
One: The peace of Christ be with you.
All: And with your spirit

Introit: Jesus, Remember Me VU 148

Jesus, remember me when you come into the kingdom. Jesus, remember me when you come into the kingdom.

Entry of the Cross

INVITE

Call to Worship:
This is the day of pain and suffering that we call Good. This is the time when brave and gracious Love was lost. This is the place where we receive again the story of great faith. In this day, at this time, in this place, remember and worship.

Sung Response Jesus Remember Me VU 148

VOICE

Isaiah 52:13 – 53:

Responsive Reading
One: The suffering servant despised and rejected.
All: We remember Jesus despised by those for whom he was the voice of conscience, rejected even by his friends.

One: The suffering servant, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.

ALL: We remember Jesus who empathized with those in the world treated harshly and who gave hope to the bereaved

One: The suffering servant, wounded for our transgressions.

All: We remember Jesus, who paid the ultimate price for the self-interest and desire for control that is mirrored in our nature.

One: The suffering servant, led like a lamb to the slaughter.

All: We remember Jesus, for whom a refusal to compromise or to submit to corrupt leaders led inevitably to a cross and death.

We fell silent in the face of his sacrifice. (Silence)

The Passion Narrative. John 18:1-19:42

ENGAGE

The Draping of the Cross

Solemn Response: A traditional form of confession.

Sung Response: Kyrie eleison, Kyrie eleison, kyrie eleison. Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy on us. VU 946

REALIZE

The Lord’s Prayer

Extinguishing the Christ Candle

The service ends without a benediction but rather in silence. Use the silence as an opportunity for personal reflection, and then leave in your own time.
